coronas at dan ryan's chicago grill

This was my first time at Dan Ryan's. A nice friendly place, with a largely expat and tourist clientale. A toy train, complete with lights, chugs away atop the bar. Vintage travel posters all over the walls. But not the best place to sketch on account of the dim lights.

singapore sketch #2

I had lunch at a little restaurant on Arab Street today. The air was filled with the mullah's call to the faithful for the afternoon prayers. And those are the minarets of the Sultan Mosque. Thanks, Shilpa!

singapore sketch #1

I drew this sitting at the Coffee Bean in Mount Elizabeth hospital where the missus was getting a blood test done. I'm not sure what the building is called. (But now thanks to Shilpa, I know. It's the Marriot Hotel.)

header #3 for The Painted Chef

All I seem to be sketching these days is headers for my food blog. But hey, I'm having fun.

header #2 for The Painted Chef

This went atop my food blog last week, but I wasn't sure I liked it very much, so it's been retired.

backpack

A gift from a friend, I've had this backpack for about 10 years now; it's been all over the world with me: the United States, London, Paris, the Seychelles, Dubai, not to mention, Singapore. I guess all the time on the road took its toll and the zippers gave up. I almost threw it out, but the missus had the brains and the patience to get the zippers fixed. It's good as new now.

The contents of the bag when I sketched it: the Moleskine diary that I started in 2004, Moleskine day planner 2007, an A'Zone A6 sketchbook, red, black and blue pilot pens, a 20s pack of Benson & Hedges, Zippo lighter, Salman Rushdie's 'Fury', my wallet.
